After renewing my books, what does "charged, loan period shortened to user privilege expiration date" mean? Card expiring? Being charged a fee?

Your library card expires every 3 years so that we can update your account with accurate information. When you renew items online and your card is set to expire before the date the items would be due, the loan period is shortened and the items will be due when the card expires. After renewing your card, you can extend the loan period, as long as no one else has the item on hold. There is no fee to renew your card. You can renew online here or stop by your branch.
