Q. How do I return an ebook?

I checked out a book for the Kindle, how do I return it in the 14 days that it is due? Are there fees if it is late?

Answer

You will never accrue late fees with titles you download for your Kindle or other eReader from the Maryland Digital e-Library Consortium (OverDrive). Titles expire at the end of the loan period, and they are automatically returned to the library. If you'd like to return the eBook early, you can. To return a Kindle eBook early, login to Amazon.com on your computer and navigate to the "Manage Your Kindle" section. Hover over the "Actions" button next to the book you wish to return and then click "Return This Book." To return an eBook early through the Overdrive app, long press the item on your bookshelf and select "Return, then delete." To return an eBook early through the Libby app, tap "Manage Loan," then "Return Loan to Library."

Hoopla titles cannot be returned early. They will be removed from your account at the end of the lending period.

RBdigital magazine titles do not need to be returned. RBdigital eBooks and audiobooks expire at the end of the loan period, and they are automatically returned to the library. If you'd like, you may return them early in the RBdigital app.
